Description
This refreshing detox green smoothie is packed with spinach, pineapple, ginger, and lemon for a bright, feel-good boost any time of day. It’s thick, naturally sweet, and super easy to blend up with ingredients you can find in any US grocery store. Perfect for a quick breakfast, post-workout drink, or afternoon pick‑me‑up.
Ingredients
1 cup fresh baby spinach, packed
1 small green apple, cored and chopped
1/2 medium English cucumber, sliced (peeled if not organic)
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/2 medium ripe banana (fresh or frozen)
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated
2 tablespoons chia seeds or ground flaxseed
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1/2 lemon)
1 cup cold water or unsweetened coconut water
1/2 cup ice cubes (optional, for a thicker smoothie)
Instructions
Add the water or coconut water to your blender first.
Add the spinach, chopped green apple, sliced cucumber, banana, ginger, lemon juice, and chia or flax seeds.
Top with the frozen pineapple chunks and ice cubes, if using.
Blend on low speed for 10–15 seconds, then increase to high and blend for 45–60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy.
Check the consistency: add a splash of water to thin, or a few extra frozen pineapple chunks or ice cubes to thicken, then blend again.
Taste and adjust if needed, adding a bit more lemon for brightness or a drizzle of honey/maple syrup for sweetness.
Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
For a creamier, more filling smoothie, swap half the water for unsweetened almond milk or add 1/4 of an avocado.
If you don’t have a high-speed blender, chop the apple, cucumber, and ginger into small pieces and blend the spinach with the liquid first before adding the remaining ingredients.
To keep sugars a bit lower, reduce the banana to 1/4 and add extra cucumber or spinach; you can still sweeten lightly with a teaspoon of honey if needed.
Make “smoothie packs” by freezing the apple, cucumber, spinach, pineapple, ginger, and banana together in zip-top bags; in the morning, just add liquid and seeds and blend.
